News Roundup
The Fuzzy Blog: "A New Approach to Permalinks - The Boston Diaries has an interesting approach to Permalinks. It's based on Ted Nelson's Tumbler concept and makes what looks like a standard directory reference into a range queryable concept." Pretty nifty.
devshed.com: Using Amazon Web Services With PHP And SOAP - part I | part II
John Udell I: "OSAF has hired Netscape mail/news veteran David McCusker to work on Chandler."
John Udell II: "Delta Airlines installed [...] one of the most effective uses of information technology I have ever seen."
Zeldman.com (now heartless): "OS X may be the New Coke of operating systems. It may be Steve Jobs’s revenge for the failure of NeXT. Or it may be the beginnings of the greatest operating system ever created for a desktop computer. All we know for sure is that it won’t run on one of the best and most expensive computers Apple ever made," a dual processor G4. The Aardvark on this machine: "Which of the two makes less noise, a G4 or a Draken fighter jet?" The G4, commonly referred to as "fighter jet" and "wind tunnel".
Looking for a first class rip off? The Movable Hype Stylesheet Generator (link via dangerousmeta) claims to be "an easy to use, php-powered series of drop down menus that will return a customized stylesheet. Best of all, no changes to the default templates are necessary." For a $10.00 purchase, no changes to the default template are possible, that is. All you can do is to specify some font faces, text sizes, background colors and to choose an image (screenshot), resulting in minor changes to an ever same looking template (screenshot). Great business idea, especially when you keep in mind that there are first class generators for standard compliant tables, headers and other items available - for free.
