America's Cup 2003: Waiting for the Race

<< Previous Entry | Next Entry>>

0200 GMT, Alinghi vs. Team New Zealand race four still not started. To make waiting easier, German public television ARD (that covers the event live) airs a very impressive and lively feature on the Illbruck team and its victory of the 2001/2002 Volvo Ocean Race. During that race around the world from Southampton to Kiel, German team Illbruck set a new world record: during the 9th leg from Baltimore to La Rochelle, they covered 484 nm within 24 hours. Time to check some sites on this race:

Also, the Illbruck is very interesting from an engineer's point of view, just like the America's Cup boats are. Perhaps more on that later.

UPDATE
Todays race is canceled. Team Alinghi wants to sail, Team New Zealand doesn't want to take a chance. Next try on Saturday.
