Power Shifts

<< Previous Entry | Next Entry>>

Side note: During the last years, Chinese companies have bought, knocked down into small pieces and shipped back home every single piece of heavy machinery that the former steel giant KruppHoesch has left behind here in Dortmund, Germany, after abandoning the last two local steel mills. Now Chinese workers are cheap and do the dirty stuff, don't they? There are plenty of them, and they work harder and faster than ants do, don't they?

If you ask locals about how fast nearly all of the remaining, now empty, buildings have been torn down during the last months, many of them reply: "Of course, the Chinese did it." Wrong. The Chinese did the cherrypicking, just went for the machinery, returned home and left the dirty and hard work of tearing down the remaining hollow buildings to local companies. Looks like many people haven't yet realized that subtle shift in power. Better they did.
