Most people are raving about Technorati, but frankly am not too impressed with its current performance - both in availability and freshness. According to Technorati, the Link Cosmos for this site must contain the ever same number of incoming links from the ever same blogs. This is because it mainly lists blogroll (=static) links, while it takes quite a while until it catches a fresh link to my site in someone's new blog posting - if at all. In fact, I found most current references to my sites through other methods than Technorati.

Comes Bloglines. The citations function of this excellent web based aggregator works similar to Technorati's Link Cosmos, but more quickly delivers more and fresher results. Drawbacks: limited to the feeds Bloglines actually catches, which are quite a lot though, and it also lists references within my own site (if I link to a past entry on my blog, the new link shows up in the citations list). Given the high quality of the result set, quick output, high availabilty and clean screen layout, this is a good alternative to the currently rather poor Technorati. Recommended and added to the sidebar.
