To my surprise, the notebook computer I fed with a cup of Cappuccino seems to have survived. After letting it dry thoroughly it booted like nothing had happened, but then started to beep randomly. Once I removed the keyboard, everything worked normally. Phew.
Further watering and drying of the unmounted keyboard did not help, so I have ordered a new one. In Germany, Acer spare parts are officially available through MK Electronic at surprisinlgy modest prices (they also offer exploded drawings). Single drawback: screen brightness went back to its lowest level, and I will have to wait for the new keyboard to arrive to step up it again - there seems no way to do this without a working Fn-key.
And how to dry a wet notebook computer? In the oven, with the display lid opened. At a temperature of no more than 50 degrees Celsius, a few hours in this uniformly warm atmosphere will do. Alternatively, just let it sit on a table for a day or two. Hair-dryer are not recommended as they heat up things punctually and superficially, resulting in thermal stress on the shell and little drying effect inside the computer.
Comments are closed at the moment. I will post a blog entry as soon as they are available again.
