Palm: Switched

<< Previous Entry | Next Entry>>

We've been working on it for a number of years and keeping it under wraps has been tough.
Ed Colligan, Palm president and CEO during yesterday's announcement
"I've been working on this project for over two years," Shirai told me. That would date back to the era of the Palm-Hanspring merger, and indeed "Donna and Jeff [Dubinsky and Hawkins--cofounders of Palm and Handspring] were involved in early discussions with Microsoft." And "once Palm split up and PalmSource was a separate entity, that was the opening."
Greg Shirai, Palm VP of product marketing in a PC World interview

Now that we know that Palm's decision to switch its operating system to Windows Mobile isn't exactly fresh, I am wondering how secretive it has been handled within the Palm company. While of course top management couldn't speak about it openly, it would be interesting to know down to which level and for how long management was told hush-hush beforhands and when everyone knew. Which takes us to the question how the company's performance was or was not influenced by the plan, which of course takes us to the question if someone, particularly with shareholder background, will try to substantiate this enough to be able to take it to the courts and sue himself rich. Personally though I am just hoping for a drop of the Treo 650's price :-)
