One thing that immediately caught my eye when exploring the Westfalenhütte integrated steel mill was the sheer size and quantity of water installations. Groundwater springs, pumping and conditioning stations, sumps, all oftentimes hidden in massive underground facilities, sewage works, the occasional watertower here and there - and absolute capacities and flow rates that the public water systems of some cities would be proud of.
