A Walk in the Woods

If there is such a thing as the grand ol' dream of coal mine photography, it is to take a stroll in the woods and to find an old mine, left by man decades ago and untouched since, with lots of zeitgeist of the gone era in the air. Realizing this dream is a bit hard as the structural change has thoroughly swept away such old moldiness from almost all chinks and pores of the Ruhrgebiet. Well, almost. The relicts shown here are those of a mine closed down 43 years ago, located well off the beaten paths. Of course the headgears and the engines are gone, the shafts are filled and most buildings are in ruinous condition, but else, it's a Rip Van Winkle sleep.
